Job Summary

Sun Tribe EPC (“ST EPC”) is the mid-Atlantic’s premier distributed generation solar design and build firm. The business is focused on designing and constructing ground-mounted Solar Photovoltaic (PV) facilities that connect to the distribution grid (<20MWac). The Project Management team is responsible for planning and executing projects pursuant to terms of turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) agreements.  

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for coordinating and directing all aspects of the work, managing the schedule and resources, and controlling risks and changes.  The Senior Project Manager establishes and maintains professional working relationships with project stakeholders, including subcontractors, vendors, clients, consultants, regulatory agencies, host facilities, and personnel from complementary Departments within the Company . The Senior Project Manager role may oversee more than one project concurrently.

The Senior Project Manager reports to the Director of Project Management and may supervise an Assistant Project Manager.
 

Principal Responsibilities

Project Leadership
  • Ensures all company HSSE systems and processes are in place and followed and that safety first culture is established and maintained.
  • Leads the organization’s delivery of projects in line with key objectives
  • Responsible for bottom line performance and P&L of all assigned projects.
  • Directs and guides the project team, ensuring that project objectives and priorities are understood, and that plans are formed and executed.
  • Follows established processes to ensure that plan implementation is consistent across the project team and organization; challenges established processes in pursuit of perpetual improvement
  • Manages partners including subcontractors, vendors, and consultants, in support of project execution
  • Directs daily activity of project’s Assistant Project Managers including the assignment of specific project tasks

Planning
  • Serves as organization’s SME on project source documents including prime EPC agreement and developer deliverables
  • Develops and manages a plan to execute the project within contractual limitations and in alignment with project charters
  • Coordinates project kick-off meetings (internal and external).
  • Works in collaboration with Preconstruction Managers to review the estimate and allocate estimated items to the final project budget
  • Develops, maintains, and leverages comprehensive project schedules; actively uses schedules to plan and manage work, including labor, equipment, and material requirements
  • Prepares and submits all non-discretionary permit applications to local, state, and federal authorities having jurisdiction; obtain permits; always maintains full compliance with all permits
  • Manages system interconnection agreement requirements with the local utility
  • Coordinates system commissioning and performance testing with the Sun Tribe-internal quality and engineering departments, utilities, owners, third-party engineers, and others
  • Develops and maintains contingency plans; implements as needed

Active Monitoring
  • Manages project budgets; report weekly costs-to-date, estimated costs to complete, committed costs, cost risks and mitigation strategies, cost-saving opportunities, etc.
  • Interfaces with accounting department to process incoming and outgoing invoices and forecast and manage project cash flows
  • Approves subcontractor pay applications
  • Manages the project quality control program to ensure that processes are consistently implemented according to the plan; delivers the specified product
  • Ensures Sun Tribe site personnel are procuring materials, equipment, and labor in accordance with the project budget and company processes.

Change Management
  • Accurately identifies risks to project outcomes in advance and undertakes mitigating activity 
  • Identifies and documents project restraints in systems of record including their impact on project outcomes
  • Marshalls internal and external resources as necessary to resolve project restraints
  • Secures Change Orders from clients as appropriate.
  • Evaluates and negotiates Change Orders from subcontractors

Subcontracting
  • Effectively manages contracts (prime, subcontracts, purchase orders) including exhibits and ancillary documents
  • Drafts, reviews, manages, and improves subcontracts; identifies and negotiates key terms; manages risk
  • Develops RFP packages, administers RFP processes, evaluates proposals, value engineers, negotiates contracts and subcontracts

Communication
  • Ensures that owner reporting occurs in line with contractual obligations
  • Leads effective internal and external weekly project meetings
  • Maintains accurate schedules and cost estimates in systems of record
  • Ensures timely and accurate project reporting to internal and external stakeholders
  • Delivers to the organization concise status and actionable intelligence
  • Communicates effectively with clients to continuously earns their respect

Senior Designation
  • Supports organizational success by supporting peer Project Managers in the performance of their work
  • Brings to bear across the company’s project portfolio subject matter expertise in project management during key moments of the project lifecycles
  • Contributes actively to process improvement and to the development of the company’s set of Project Management tools
  • Supports leadership as a thought partner on the flow of project management work through the organization, delegation of resources, project
  • Helps evaluate project risk through formal analysis prior to contract execution
  • Serves as key counterparty to one or more of the companies priority clients

Basic Qualifications

  • Degree required: Bachelor's Degree in construction management, business, engineering or other technical related field is required
  • A minimum six (6) years’ experience in project management required
  • Preference to candidates who hold or are in the process of obtaining:
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification through the Project Management Institute or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)
    • Procore certification(s)

Skills & Experience

  • Ability to leverage project scheduling software such as MS Project (or equivalent CPM scheduling software) and construction management platforms such as Procore

  • Ability to lead and work well with others in a collaborative team environment; capable of delegating effectively; capable of inspiring others to action
